MyGrane is Medicine

Out of 1,412 submissions Mygrane finished 18th overall in the 100 K Battle. Quite a feat if you consider the talents involved. The Ozone(Orlando, FL) made quite a splash and not only did Mygrane go hard in the paint, but his partner in rhyme Murdoc was eventually crowned the winner. These men showed the world Hip Hop is alive and well round the Ozone. Last October toward the end of the contest, Sway and Tech decided to invite the Top 20 to The World Famous Wake Up Show. It was really a dream come true for everyone involved, a destiny many of us strive for. Now Mygrane was one of the shortest in the studio, But by the end of the evening ... he stood out like a giant. Mygrane McNastee is what they call him and slappin brains is his occupation. Check out this footage including his personal interview and a classic spit session on The Wake Up Show !

Its impossible to forget Mygrane after witnessing him slicin em up like that, but I personally think dude is highly underated. MyGrane played big part in Lenny Williams "Order From Chaos" and has been working with Presto on random classical joints like "Slappin Brainz" and "PunchFest." Although all his joints seem to be Hip Hop Classics, When I heard "Just Say Yes" I Put it on repeat for like 30 minutes and knew it was time to start blogging. You Can download his new track courtesy of Ursession and Hip Hop Resurected by clicking the download button on the music player below.

For more Mygrane McNastee be sure to check out his new website http://mygranehiphop.com/ and be on the look out for a project with Producer DarkHorse. A soldier in the army of Hip Hop Mygrane is everywhere even working on a project called "Bermuda Pentagon" featuring the legendary likes of C-Rayz Walz, Murdoc, AmIam, and J Kroaz. So whether supporter or hater, i suggest you walk around the Ozone with a football helmet on your dome or else you might end up with your spaghetti on the walls. Hip Hop has a tendency to catch a cold and give headaches but Mygrane is medicine.

Presto .. A Legend In The Making

Hailing from Tampa, Florida, PunchFest-Champion Presto has risen to the top of long list of true hip hop emcee's from the Florida scene. His dynamic delivery and humbled thought process has helped rejuvenate the true definition of a lyricist. Born 1982 at Jacobi Medical Center in the heart of the Bronx. (where Hip Hop originated) Nathaniel Rodriguez (aka Presto) was raised on 176th St and Grand Concourse in the “Luis Morris” building for the first 7 years Of his life. From there his family moved to the Pelham Pkwy section of the Bronx where he resided throughout his teenage years. In the summer of 1994 Presto first picked up a pen and start writing. Soon after his was making home made mixtapes looping beats with several blank tapes, a Gemini sampler, and a semi broke karaoke machine with a silver RadioShack mic. Picture that... it was more than enough to get him started making music. Presto was originally influenced by Hip Hop’s fore fathers such as Rakim, Kool G Rap, KRS ONE, and Slick Rick just to name a few, Eventually he found his own sound then ran with it. After completing his mixtapes Presto would show them to his younger brother who encouraged him to pass them out to his friends at school., which he did. Presto’s passion for rhyming drove him to look for every cipher available and participated in all of them without hesitation. Growing up in the inner city wasn’t easy for presto or his peers. The hardship of the community influenced him to write rhymes about his immediate surroundings and experiences. Presto spent most of his leisure time reading books on various subjects from psychology, science, chemistry, alternative history to quantum metaphysics which he felt helped him sharpen his skills on the mic which expanded his vocabulary thus enabling him to masterfully put everything into rhyme form. An “independent/critical thinker” says Presto, would Best classify his beliefs leaving behind the old religious ritualistic/dualistic thinking That he was conditioned to believe since youth, he says that his “doubt/skepticism” is what saved him from all the religious mental strangle holds. From 1996-2000 Presto attended the High school of Art & Design in NYC which birthed some of the finest MC’s in the game today such as Mob Deep and Pharaoh Monche. It was his cousin Vic (aka XXXClusive) who introduced him to the top MC’s during that time which gave Presto the recognition and respect that he had hoped for. “Those were my best years” says Presto he listened to seasoned rappers talk about heavy subjects such as politics, crime, global conspiracy and government corruption which he felt was the best education He ever received in his life because the information was not edited, he was very well respected in school lunch ciphers and after school park battles. Presto graduated the same year with his fellow classmates Jae Millz, Nova, and Skitzo (Camron & Dipsets beat maker) who he says inspired him to write more. “The only reason I went to school was for the lunchroom ciphers”. Back at home Presto decided it was time to “make moves” and linked up with his old neighborhood friends DJ N.O.E (currently Jacob the Jewelers bodyguard) and Jay Supiria ( world famous super producer for WN Radio Show) who he spent a lot of time recording tracks with them in their home studios, Presto said that he also learned how to DJ and maneuver the “boards” as well with the help of his long time friends N.O.E & Jay Supiria. As a freshman in College Presto began to network and connect with club owners and promoters while signing up for every open mic possible throughout the NYC Area. Places such as The Lyricists Lounge, Newyorican CafĂ©, and The Pyramid (E.O.W) where Presto spent most of his time on weekends tearing down the stage and at the same time admiring MC’s such as Immortal Tech, Wordsworth, Percy Pee, Super Natural, C Rayz Wallz, Thirstin Howl III, who were Featured artists at these underground venues and who were extremely influential to him during those years. In January of 2002 Presto moved to Tampa, Fl where he currently resides and travels back and forth to see his immediate family back in NYC. Now considered a permanent Floridian Presto has made several appearances in local Tampa Hip Hop venues doing numerous performances with local artists and has expanded his music across the globe on a underground level with the help of the internet. Presto is currently in the process of working on a major collab project with artists such as the legendary Can-I-bus and Sicksince of the “New Age MC’s” who is his partner in Rhyme. As a full time MC and Producer, Presto continues to strive for lyrical perfection and spends endless hours mastering his craft on a consistent basis for the sake of preserving Hip Hop to its fullest. ??A FEW QUESTIONS FOR PRESTO - CHECKOUT HIS ANSWERS??

Q 1. - " what is your most memorable hip hop moment of all time" ?

A 1. - When the whole East vs West beef was squashed and when Nas dropped "Hip Hop is Dead"

Q 2. - you have worked with some of the best mc's from Mygrane to Canibus, "Which artist's do you look up to and have hopes to work with one day" ?

A 2. - I would say Chino XL who is another major lyrical inspiration

Q 3. - "What is the one thing that most of us should know about Presto outside of music and your career" ?

A 3. - On a spiritual level I enjoy the fact that we exists with nature in one harmonious unitary movement and I do not feel the need to preach to anyone about "how to live" , the "how to's" have divided mankind for centuries and have caused nothing but chaos and conflict. Nature is life and life is action which is energy, so it is what it is....regardless if we choose to "believe" in it or not.....life goes on.

Q 4. - "How can your fans and supporters help Presto be the Legend many of us expect you to be" ?

A 4. -If i can't learn anything from my fans/supporters then my mission to get to the top (or legendary status) is over. The minute I arrive to that point of "legendary" status only means that I have to begin all over again and keep working my way up, a lot of emcees want to think that they are legends but the ego and pride can either work for you or against you compounded over time (which ever you choose). I believe that the only way I can make it to the top is to first make sure that my accomplices who ride with me make it there first.

Q 5. - "If you could change one thing about this Hip Hop game what would you change , and Why " ?

A 5. - I would see to it that the commercial industry promote, market and fund lyrical artists of any genre (midwest, eastcoast, west coast, dirty south) instead of these little kids on TV who make millions because they use words like "swag", "money", "hoes" and "bitches" with limited vocabulary and no message behind their rhymes.

Q.6 - "Finally I am going to ask if there is anything you want to say or mention to our readers and the younger generation of aspiring artists " ?

A.6 - Lets stop the beefin' and start collabin'! We're all brothers and sisters.

Indie artist sells a million records..

The Truth is TECH N9NE is the first Independent Artist of any genre to sell one-million records. I remember hearing him for the first time in the late 90's. My first reaction was .." why i am just hearing about him "... "how come no one else know who he is". For Me and my opinions Tech N9ne instantly jupmed into arguments of the top ten rappers of all-time. Since then TECH N9NE has spent his illustrious career making sure he’s been grinding harder than the average rapper. With eight solo albums and one powerhouse collaboration project under his belt, the Kansas City MC’s flow is sharper and slicker than it’s ever been. Sickology 101 featuring Crooked I and Chino XL is Easily one of the dopest hip hop tracks of the year. Catch Him On Tour This Summer as part of the Rock the Bells Tour. If have never heard TECH N9NE music, i have one thing to say..... Do Your Homework. !!!!!!!!!

Tech N9ne has achieved newfound fame after selling a million records with his last album, Killer. Although stardom might have come to the rapper, who owns and co-runs his own record label, Strange Music, it has not put his head in the clouds.
Tech N9ne's latest album, Sickology 101, is the second in the Collabos series, a collection of collaborating albums. The album, featuring more than 20 different rappers from Kansas City to the east coast, is considered a how-to guide to rap.
"Sickology is the study of being sick, lyrically," Tech N9ne said. "This is us showing you how to do the rap thing. If you want to do the rap thing, this is a good guide." The album is actually mocking those cats who put out weird titles or stupid songs, people who don't put their all into their lyrics, Tech N9ne said. "So, I actually based the album around one big joke song called Areola," how people can take a stupid title and turn it into something humongous. Out here, on this road, everybody, everywhere I go, in all my crowds, they will start chanting 'Areola'/My joke song has turned into a hit song for me/It's so catchy but yet so stupid at the same time -- it's so funny." Although Tech N9ne might have just released two albums in less than a year, he has no plans to slow down. The album K.O.D., set to be released in October, is being written while the rapper is on tour. Although he has seen more recognition, Tech N9ne has no plans to sell out to a major record label. The rapper chooses to stick to his own devices not only because of bad experiences with larger labels but because he is able to produce his own albums and has more freedom with them. "I will always be Strange Music," Tech N9ne said. "I will always be that guy, that indie artist that sells big records, man and we keep selling more and more. It's a wonderful thing. What better person would do me than me? Strange Music will be me when I'm dead and gone."

Doc Davis aka N.O.

Born in Louisiana in the gritty city of New Orleans in the Lower 9th ward, DocDavis aka N.O., started rapping after Hurricane Katrina forced him out mof his hometown. Destined to not let anything stand in his way, he advanced his rapping technique and created his own style. Doc would tell you that he is multi-talented, athletic, a poetic yet colorful lyricist. Doc is very emphatic and arguementative, but fair. After being was born to a deaf mother, he conclude that the talent that he does have, didn't come from that DNA trait. Throwing that -"you either got it or you don't", "you was born with it", old nature theory completely out the window. Doc Davis moved to Omaha, Nebraska where he finished high school and recently moved to Houston in Oct. of 07. From there He started working on his mixtape, when one day it hit him and he asked himself, " Why work on a mixtape when I have JMOTEN " So Doc started working on his album titled "Lyfe After Katrina" which is soon to be released. For Booking contact Doc Davis thru his email (docdavis88@yahoo.com) or hit him up on his Ursession page

-------------QUESTIONS FOR DOC DAVIS--

--Q1 - Let me start by asking where were you when hurricane katrina hit, and how did it affect your life ?

--A1 - Unforunately, I was in New Orleans at the time. My brother and I were the only knuckleheads who decided to stay out of my entire family. Little did we know it was going to be devastating. We chose to stay because most all the previous hurricanes made a last minute turn away from the Big Easy. In previous Hurricanes we only had about 6 to 7 inches of water but katrina was alot different. During the whole ordeal of Katrina it affected my life in ways I couldnt possibly imagine. It made me cherish everything that God has blessed me with, life, a family, and Basic Instructions Before Learning Earth; The BIBLE. By drawing closer to God I had to honor my parents and stop being rebellious towards them, my days on earth wont be short. So I regained my focus in school when I relocated in Omaha, NE and graduated in 2007. So really I got something positive out of it, because what doesnt kill you makes you stronger.

--Q2 - Many outsiders looking-in, under-estimated katrina's impact. what would you say to the people that could help them understand it's devasting signifigance ?

--A2 - To the outsiders who underestimate its devastating signifigance, just picture yourself in our shoes, imagine that happen to the place where you were born and raised and it being totally wiped out without your even saying goodbye to your family and friends and losing everything you have in a matter of hours. I dont think many people can picture that.

--Q3 - So how old where you when you acknowlegded your passion for hip hop ?

--A3 - I found my true passion for hip hop after Katrina. Thats when I first picked up a pen and a pad. I was 17 at the time, that was 3 1/2 years ago.

--Q4 - As a young man , which artist's or bands did you look up too ??

--A4 - Well all my life I listened to all types of genres of music. From 3 doors down to 2pac, but who really had my ears glued to the stereo was 2pac, Twista, and Eminem. Those are who I looked up to as far as style, delivery, and storytelling.

--Q5 - They say you can learn alot about a man from his choice of drink, so i wanna ask .. what do u perfer when you are in line at the club ??

--A5 - I have to say right now it's that green apple vodka, Grey Goose vodka, and Paul Mason,. I havent yet found my signature club drink yet.

--Q6 - Aside from you, give me the name of a undeground artist you belive the world should know about.

--A6 - I am gonna say Dee-Ross, and K-9. as for Producers I would say JMOTEN and a local named Tone.

--Q7 - This time last year you had just entered the 100 k battle, how did you hear about that contest ?

--A7 - Well i heard from my brother in-law JMOTEN told me about the contest, it was late when I submitted the song, but it was still a fun competition. I believe we could have won if we we would have known way at the beginning of the contest.

--Q9 - Now, what can we expect from you and your movement in the future ? Are you Working on any big projects ?

--A8 - You can expect to hear some good music. I am a very versatile artist. What JMOTEN and I are working on is no Stanky Leg or Ricky Bobby type music. We're working on a project that will have your ears glued to the stereo 10 years from now, not just a few months.

--Q9 - many often debate the great rappers, but i would like to ask you for your top 5 producers of all-time ?

--A9 - I would say Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Jay-Z, Missy, and Scott Storch.

--Q10 - And inconclusion is there is one piece of advice you would like give to the younger generation of artist's , what would you say to help thier careers and thier lives ?

--A10 - To stay focused and stay in school. Be a leader and challenge yourself, always keep God first. If you always keep God first your plans will succeed. "I dare you to do it".
